PDW Goes Global!

Hello

with 4 weeks to go for Perth Design Week 2024, our program is now up online.

and we are proud to announce global design leaders oma + Unifor as principle partners.

Following last year’s hugely successful inaugural Festival devoted to celebrating all things design - Perth Design Week (PDW) is back for 2024 with the program being launched online today, Thursday 15 February 2024.

PDW is a dedicated public festival showcasing good design, while celebrating and acknowledging our local design leaders and the design community.

PDW 2024 boasts even more events across the city/Boorloo and due to popular demand, the Festival’s program this year will extend beyond the CBD.

This year we again invite the people of Perth into the world of design, creating the opportunity to connect with professionals to allow a deeper insight and understanding of the experts’ work, what they do and why they do it. Our program allows for interaction - for the public to engage with the design community.

This year PDW has gone global!

We are proud and honoured to announce our collaboration with renowned global architecture practice OMA and Italian based, international furniture brand, UniFor - presenting PRINCIPLES in a highly innovative, interactive and inclusive installation ‘Principles Square’ at Cathedral Square. Significantly, PDW has been chosen as the first location after Milan, to re-launch the collection composed by more than one hundred elements in various size, from S to XL, configurable in limitless ways.

“OMA’s presentation at the Perth Design Week enables us to exchange ideas with the design community and the public in Perth. The dialogues that we have strengthens our presence in Perth and Australia, and we are committed to delivering different types of work that positively engages with the region’s architectural and urban development,” said Paul Jones, Australian Director, OMA

“Bringing the PRINCIPLES collection to Perth on the occasion of Design Week, confirms UniFor’s strong will to continue supporting the Australian market, which over the years has responded enthusiastically to our design proposals. Working alongside the OMA studio is again, an opportunity for us to gain new perspectives and visions,” said Carlo Molteni, CEO, UniFor.

A Coalition of the willing

All PDW partners from 2023 are back on board this year including WA Museum Boola Bardip, which is running a Children’s and Family Program as well as hosting Design Conversations and the ‘WA Homes - S,M,L’ exhibition. This exhibition focuses on Perth’s leading architects redefining the great (West) Australian dream through smaller houses (S), medium density developments (M) and apartments (L) which prioritise innovative design, high-quality spaces, and environmental sensitivity in a smaller footprint.

The Art Gallery of Western Australia has joined our program in collaboration with the Design Institute of Australia presenting a retrospective exhibition of the globally renowned jewellery designer - WA’s own Dorothy Erickson. ‘Piú di Cinquante’ features State Art Collection works alongside a rich array of loans, including special pieces from Erickson's personal collection.

The State Buildings are also back with us, this year hosting events throughout the entire week of the Festival including a broad range of talks from sustainability and affordable housing to graphic design and more. The exciting new members club Lawson Flats is opening its doors to host design conversations and a closing celebration.

Curtin University will host an exhibition at Central Park Perth, while North Metropolitan TAFE brings fashion into the program with a runway show on the 35th floor of the QV1 building boasting views to match the spectacular showcase of fashion.

Extending PDW’s boundaries this year, City of Stirling is new on board, inviting students to join the ‘coalition of the infilling’ and design innovative and sustainable infill development projects. While City of Vincent continues the conversation started last year at PDW on mainstreaming sustainability, and FORM will celebrate connection and creativity at their Claremont Gallery & Café.

this year’s event runs from 14 to 21 March 2024 at venues across the City and beyond.
