DESIGN FOR CULTURE

  • Hatch RobertsDay Studio, Level 2 442 Murray Street Mall Perth, WA, 6000 Australia (map)

Great Culture makes Great Cities. Yet one of the greatest challenges facing Perth and WA is finding, designing or delivering space for creatives … where and how to accommodate a burgeoning cultural sector?

This public talk examines the depth of need for space for creatives, challenges in accessing spaces for projects (with the Strange Festival as a case study), planning and development levers that Government can use to help deliver more space, recent initiatives to incentivize the design and creation of space for creatives, especially by the private sector, and the role of major intermediaries such as FORM in coordinating space programming.

With examples ranging from Central Perth to Regional Geraldton, attendees will get a glimpse of the many planning, development and design levers that can be used to deliver and support studios, galleries, halls, hubs, centres, precincts and festivals to drive a renaissance of culture in the Perth central area … and the challenges involved in burning a giant tarantula.

Presenters:

Zanda Cameron (Hatch)
Peter Ciemitis (Hatch)
Nikki Harvey (Hatch)
Tabitha McMullan (FORM)
Glenn Watson (Strange Festival)
